This innovative subject leader course will run from November to April over six half day sessions. It is suitable for subject leaders (core and foundation) who want to ensure that their leadership achieves the maximum possible impact on improving teaching and learning. Sessions are a mix of theory and practical activities.

The course will be facilitated by Sally Bishop and Claire Hawtin.

By attending this course subject leaders will:

  • Explore all aspects of a subject leadership role and assess their own school strengths and areas for development within this.

  • Create an action plan to improve areas for development and explore the driving and restraining forces for improvement.

  • Explore and discuss theoretical ‘think pieces’ that explore current outstanding leadership practice.

  • Conduct paired lesson observations in order to understand how to identify and prioritise areas for development.

  • Monitor and evaluate subject planning and conduct book scrutiny. Use the monitoring to prioritise areas for development.
