Ursula Andrew

Lead Practitioner (SEND)

Having trained and taught as a Secondary Science teacher I have worked at Chessbrook ESC, an outstanding Education Support System in Watford, since 2001.  I have been the SENDCo for 15 years and the PHSE lead for 6 years, performed an outreach role across key stages in various school settings working with students who have been identified as having Special Educational Needs as a Consultant SENDCo for the last 6 years in a middle leader capacity at CESC.  I have been able to bring my knowledge and experience to help other schools with SEND and am currently the Lead Practitioner for SEND, working primarily with SENDCos and SLT in both primary and secondary schools to support SEND and Inclusion leading on SEN issues within, and on behalf of Chessbrook ESC.

The main focus of my work is to support SENDCos gather assessment, data and evidence towards successful EHCP applications for assessment and working with schools towards the final EHCP.  This can take the form of varied and tailor made interventions which enable schools to best support the child and young person (CYP) to make academic, emotional and behavioural progress in the appropriate setting for the CYP's needs.  Another important role is providing telephone support and network tools to support within schools who then have the opportunity to raise any SEND issues for individual CYP.  I will then arrange outreach visits to observe the child within the school and in particular learning settings, consult with staff and provide recommendations through discussion, regular meetings and a final report with strategies and recommendations.

I am the Designated Teacher for CLA and sit on the Designated Teacher Focus Group for Hertfordshire County Council's Virtual school.  I am a Specialist Assessor with a Certificate in Psychometric Testing (CCET) Assessment and Access Arrangements (Level 7)- (CPT3A) and together with my OCR Level 5 Certificate in Dyslexia am able to support settings with educational testing of pupils, Access Arrangements assessments or to understand professional reports written by others.  I have completed the Leading from the Middle, the National Professional Qualification in Senior Leadership (NPQSL), the advanced SENDCo qualification as well as a Masters in Educational Leadership (Pastoral Care) and am therefore suitably equipped to support class teachers, middle and senior leaders with SEND issues.
